20 of God’s promises for 2020
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of God’s many promises. For me, it has to become a habit; otherwise, the mundane and small distractions of the world take over my time. God calls us to meditate on His word daily (Joshua 1:8) and to keep His promises written in our hearts (Psalm 119:11). Lamentations 3:23 says, “Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” So, what better way to start the year but with a reminder of God’s promises to us. I chose a few that God used and continues to use to speak to me. I hope you find one that God will use to talk to you, as well.
- God gave me His righteousness. I don’t have to gain it on my own. Romans 3:22 “even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;”
- He will renew my strength and make me soar with energy and endurance. Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
- The Lord will stand beside me, protecting and preserving me during trials. Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
- His love is eternal and unchangeable, it doesn’t matter what I do, God’s love is unconditional. Romans 8:37-39 “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- God will protect and preserve me. Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.”
- He will give me wisdom. James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
- The Lord will deliver us from evil. James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
- God gives me strength when I am afraid. Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
- God will forgive us. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
- He will not leave. Deuteronomy 31:8 “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
- The Lord has a special, unique plan for my life, so I don’t have to worry about the future. God already has it planned to perfection. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
- All I have to do is follow after Christ, and He will prepare the path ahead, guiding my steps carefully. Matthew 6:31–33 “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
- God will provide comfort in the hardest of circumstances. Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
- I shouldn’t be afraid because God is on my side. Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
- I am held in His arms, my name is written in the book of life, and God has rescued me. Romans 10:9–10 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
- He will give me peace. Philippians 4:6–7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
- God will complete His work in me. Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
- He will give me a new heart like His. Ezekiel 36:26 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
- The Lord will provide my needs. Philippians 4:19 “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
- God keeps His promises. Joshua 21:45 “Not one of the good promises which the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass.”
Until we meet again,
-Alycia
